We are super excited to have in-person camps again this year, and

keeping your child healthy and happy is our top priority..

Typical Day at Multi-Camp

A Typical Day in COOKSMART Multi-Camp

8:00-8:45am

Before care.  Instructors set up for the day, which early attenders will assist, or draw, play a quiet game or read their book from home. 

8:45am-9:00am

Campers arrive and settle in.

9:05-9:15am 

Welcome and review plan for the day.

9:15-9:20am

Introduction of theme or lesson for the day

Play nutrition game and make morning snack.

Extended aftercare.  Campers may play special building games, draw, read a book from home or help the instructors set up for next day.

 

 

** Activities will vary with theme and day, rotating through art, science, nutrition, drama, physical games, mental challenges, outdoor play, discovery hikes, Indigenous storytelling and learning about community initiatives.

**** French conversations will be encouraged with our French Intern with campers who self-identify as willing to try that day. These interactions will occur during various times of day during activities as natural conversations, depending on her availability at the site that day.

Safe Arrival and Dismissal

Please arrive to camp at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. Arrival and dismissal may take longer on the first day particularly.

·        Children will be dropped off and picked up by their parent/guardian at the camp sign in area outside the camp location by the COOKSMART sign. Campers must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

·        We encourage only one parent/guardian to complete all drop-off and pick-up whenever possible.

·        Anyone listed as an authorized person to pick-up, must show photo ID

What to Wear and Bring

Each day includes cooking, crafts and outdoor activities. Clothing should be comfortable and washable. Please dress your camper appropriately for weather conditions (rain or shine). Label all items with your camper’s name:

BRING these items everyday of camp:

·        A hat for cooking and going outside.

·        Pair of indoor running shoes for cooking,

·        Refillable, non-breakable water bottle each day, unless camp water bottle is provided. 

·        Lunch and snacks are provided.  Extra snacks may be brought to eat with afternoon snack if preferred, but are not necessary.  All food must be nut-free.

**Leave personal items & toys at home. COOKSMART is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items brought to camp.  This includes phones and devices.

Camper Code of Conduct:

Everyone must understand the rules and expectations on safety and behaviour when at camp. On the first day, camp staff will review and discuss the rules and expectations with campers. Not following the rules and expectations may lead to the dismissal of the participant from camp.

· Respect staff, other campers and equipment.

· Include others in activities and play without bullying or teasing others.

 · Be cooperative and willing to participate in the activities.

· Respect other campers.

· Use appropriate language.

· Parents/guardians will be contacted in cases where children are behaving inappropriately or irresponsibly and will be asked to be picked up from camp.

· Tell your camp counsellor if you feel unwell anytime during camp.

· Leave personal belongings at home (i.e. toys, books, devices etc.).

 · Wash hands when instructed or use hand sanitizer multiple times throughout the day.

· Cover your mouth/nose appropriately when you sneeze/cough to avoid the spread of germs.

· Maintain and respect physical distancing between campers and staff.

· Follow instructions when going outside

 

 Medications  

Children requiring medication (prescription, non-prescription, natural) at camp must have:

· Completed a Medical Confirmation form.

· Campers must be able to self-administer medication under the supervision of program/camp staff.

· If a camper cannot self-administer their medication, arrangements must be made for another individual to administer. A completed Medical Confirmation form must be completed.  Medication must be stored in its original container, labelled with the pharmacist/pharmacy label. Only one day’s dosage may be given to camp staff each day.  If a dosage instrument is used (i.e. teaspoon) it must be supplied with the medication and labelled with the child’s name.


Emergency and Illness

 · Should it be necessary for you to contact your child due to an emergency, please call camp coordinator or the camp site supervisor and we will assist to make whatever arrangements are necessary.

· If your child is ill, please do not send them to camp to help prevent the spread of the illness to other campers and camp leaders

Life Threatening Allergies

We are committed to providing an “allergy-aware” environment. Camp staff has received training to administer an epinephrine auto-injector in an emergency situation. If your child has a potentially life threatening allergy please notify us. Children with a potentially life threatening allergy while at camp must have:

· One or two doses of current (not expired) epinephrine medication (Epi-pen®) that will be carried at all times on them, preferably in a waist pouch

· A completed Medical Confirmation Form must be submitted and will be shared with camp leaders

Staff Qualifications

· Camp staff are certified in Emergency First Aid/CPR B, Safe Food Handling, and Allergy Awareness.

· Most are also are trained in HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development or have studied education at university
