Fancy Fruit

Using toothpicks and small skewers, we will make some great snacks and practice some basic knife skills to make kebobs, a fruit salad cup and critters!

INGREDIENTS:

3 different colours of fruit:

Fruit: CHOOSE Banana plus 3 other colours (fresh or frozen)

1 Banana *

Grapes, blueberries, raspberries, small strawberries, gooseberries

Apples, pears, kiwi, orange, mango

melon - cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple, or watermelon

Small eyes -CHOOSE From: chocolate chips, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds or raisins

SPECIAL TOOLS:

Cutlery knife or plastic knife

Any special fruit cutting tools you have (eg. melon baller, apple wedger,small cookie cutters) - Optional

ANZAC Cookies

Australia and New Zealand’s classic cookie

Ingredients:

·rolled oats

shredded coconut (optional)

sugar - brown or white sugar

flour

salt

butter

golden syrup or honey

boiling water

baking soda

vanilla (optional)

Baking tray with parchment paper or silicon mat

Crunchy No-Bake Cookies

The best cookies you never baked!

INGREDIENTS:

butter or coconut oil

peanut butter or wowbutter or other alternative seed or nut butter

vanilla

salt

·brown sugar

· cocoa powder

· oatmeal - quick oats or whole flake

· fun bits – chia seeds, hemp hearts, coconut, pumpkin seeds, raisins, chocolate chips

Crunchy bits - flake-type cereal, coconut, almond slivers, favourite nuts or seeds

INGREDIENTS:

·       Tortillas – whole wheat, small or medium

Sauce:

Red Sauce: Tomato sauce, Pureed or Crushed tomatoes

OR Green Sauce: Pesto

·       Seasonings:  oregano, basil, garlic powder

1 handful Veggie Toppings: Choose at least 3

peppers

zucchini

Olives – black or green

Pineapple

Green Onions

Tomatoes

Mushrooms

Your favourite topping

Cheese – mozzarella, cheddar

Small skillet or grill pan, tongs (if using stove)

Cinnamon Doughnut Holes

Using a mini-muffin pan or doughnut pan if you have one

INGREDIENTS:

·        all-purpose flour 

·        baking powder

·        baking soda

·       salt

·        ground cinnamon

·        ground nutmeg

·        brown sugar or white sugar

·        1 large egg at room temperature

·        1/4 cup milk at room temperature         

·        1/4 cup yogurt or sour cream at room temperature

·        butter

·        vanilla extract

SPECIAL TOOLS:

Donut hole pan or donut pan or mini-muffin pan or muffin pan

Pastry brush or paper towel

paper bag or bowl

Optional - piping bag = resealable sandwich bag, scissors,

glass

Lunch - Mac & Cheese Balls

This favourite recipe can be made, and leftovers rolled into balls for a tasty lunch box treat!

INGREDIENTS:

Uncooked pasta - small pieces like macaroni

Butter

Flour

Milk

Dijon Mustard

Garlic powder

Sharp cheddar cheese or your favourite cheese

Salt

Pepper

Bread crumbs or panko

2 eggs

Vegetable oil

VEGGIES: CHOOSE 3

In Mac & Cheese: Cauliflower, broccoli, frozen peas, carrots

On the side: tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, carrots

SPECIAL TOOLS:

Pot with lid for boiling pasta

Skillet or smaller pot for sauce

Colander

Grater

Wooden spoon

Muffin tin or baking sheet with parchment paper

Homemade Buns - WholeGrain

These easy buns can become small slider buns, dinner rolls, hamburger or hotdog buns, or even used as pizza buns.

INGREDIENTS:

·       whole wheat flour

·       all purpose flour

·        milk

·       water

·        active dry yeast

·       sugar

·        salt

·        1 egg at room temperature

·        olive oil, canola oil or butter

·        Optional Seasoning: garlic, rosemary , parsley

·        Optional Garnish Toppings: Oatmeal, chia seeds, flax seeds, sesame seeds, hemp hearts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds
