Summer Camp Supervisors, Program Leaders and Counsellors 

COOKSMART offers healthy cooking programs both online and in-person. We are looking for individuals that enjoy teaching children and are passionate about promoting a healthy lifestyle to join our team for the summer. 

Our summer camp program will include teaching children how to prepare snacks and lunches; as well as, outdoor and indoor games and activities including art, drama, sports, science and baking. We are ideally looking for individuals that have an interest in pursuing a career in teaching or working with children. 

Locations: Mississauga, Oakville and West Toronto

Positions available: Camp Supervisors, Program Leaders and Camp Counsellors 

General Responsibilities will include:

  • Manage groups of children, ages 5-13 in a professional and fun environment

  •  Lead program lessons, activities, games and outings of weekly program

  • Participate in program planning and organization of weekly schedule as team leader or team member

  •  Teach a fun, hands-on cooking program designed to engage children in cooking basics and healthy nutritional choices

  •  Provide fun and appropriate summer camp activities for participants of all ages and abilities

  •  Ensure that safety procedures, as well as, safe handling of food are adhered to at all times

  •  Supervise campers and ensure their general safety and well-being

  • Prepare and organize necessary program ingredients, materials, and equipment

  • Interact with students in an inclusive, collaborative and respectful way that would foster a positive experience for the children

  •  Exhibit positive and professional behaviour with all parents, participants and co-workers

  •  Clean, maintain and ensure proper use of camp facilities and equipment

  •  Ensure the all Covid19 safety protocols are administered and adhered to

 

Requirements:

·         Experience in teaching children in a group setting 

·         Education and/or enrollment in the field of ECE or education field 

  • High 5 certification 

  • Certification of safe food handling techniques and procedures 

  •  First aid training (in particular for food allergies) 

·         Extra-curricular activities in sports, drama, art, science or baking

·         Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment

·         Enthusiastic and outgoing personality

·         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

·         Must be able to pass vulnerable sector check

·         Must be reliable and organized

·         Team player and great communication skills as mandatory

·         Covid19 vaccination certificate will be required

Part-Time Instructor 

Enjoy working with kids?   Love healthy cooking?  Looking for meaningful experience working with children and nutrition?    Have you had experience teaching online? Get some great hands-on experience as an instructor with COOKSMART! 

 

COOKSMART was created by a teacher-nutritionist that has had over 2000 students participate in healthy cooking programs run by professional instructors across the GTA.   Through in-school workshops, afterschool programs and camp programs, we provide hands-on nutrition & cooking instruction for elementary, middle and secondary school students.  We love what we do and we are ready to expand.   

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the behaviour lesson plan, tools, food, and clean-up for groups of students ages 5-18 to effectively to facilitate hands-on workshops, afterschool programs, plus full-day and week-long camps

  • Demonstrate the safe handling of all food, cooking tools, including but not limited to knives, blenders and choppers

  • Plan and organize materials and properly care for kitchen tools

  • Skills, qualifications and abilities:

  • Passion for health and wellness, nutrition and food preparation

  • Previous experience working as an instructor with children and students required

  • Knowledge and demonstration of safe food handling techniques and procedures; Food Handler Certification preferred

  • First aid training preferred; particularly for food allergies

  • Able to be flexible and think on your feet

  • Great interpersonal skills

  • Ability to multi task in a fast-paced working environment

  • Team player, mature attitude and professional work ethic

  • Able to physically move load of up to 20 lbs

  • Access to a car an asset

Part-time work, which may include afternoons and some daytime work as needed.   Summer instructor positions for full-time camps available as well.
