TOOLS for EVERY CLASS:

  • Apron

  • Cutting board

  • Knife for chopping - cutlery knife, paring knife or other

  • Peeler

  • Can opener

  • Food waste bowl

  • Measuring cups and spoons

  • grate

  • Wooden spoon

  • Stove or Oven * (ADULT SUPERVISION)

  • Cleaning cloth

  • Soapy water in sink



Oct 01 - Italian Tomato Soup

INGREDIENTS:

· Butter or oil

Onion

Tomatoes - can, jar, puree or diced

Soup broth - 1 L (4 cups) of vegetable or other broth, or powder/cube broth mix, or water plus onion, carrot, celery

Extra veggies - your choice - potato, zucchini, green beans, carrot, celery, kale or what you have

Protein (optional) - chick peas, white kidney beans, lentils, ground meat, or sausage

Carbohydrate (optional) - rice, pasta, barley

Seasonings: Salt & pepper, basil, bay leaf, italian seasoning, garlic powder, oregano (use what you have)

Serve with Bread/crackers and Cheese -parmesan or romano or cheddar or what you have

Special TOOLS:

- Large pot with lid

Oct 08: Mexican Tacquitos

Easy Family Favourite!

INGREDIENTS:

onion - brown or purple or green

garlic - fresh, jar or garlic powder

Beans - can of black beans or kidney beans

Other vegetables (optional) - peppers, squash, corn, peas, sweet potato (use what you have)

Tortillas - small flour or corn

Cheese - cheddar

Seasonings: Salt and pepper, cumin, chile powder, cilantro or coriander (optional), chipotle powder(optional), ketchup or tomato paste (optional)

Serve with: Salsa, sour cream, guacamole

Other options : Rice, Avocado, lime, jalapenos, Green onion, Lettuce, tomato

Taquito RECIPE

Oct 15 - Spanish Rice

INGREDIENTS:

·       butter or olive oil

·      onion

·       cloves garlic minced or 1 tsp garlic powder

·       rice

·       broth or water with bouillon powder

·       1 cup veggies : broccoli florets,  peppers, spinach, shredded carrot, or green peas

·       salsa or picante sauce or tomato juice with 1 tsp tabasco sauce

·       OPTION: protein -chorizo sausage, chicken, chick peas, black beans or your choice

·       salt and black pepper

·       lemon

·       Garnish: Parsley – torn fresh leaves, chili flakes or squeeze of lemon

Oct 22 - Quiche or Fritatta

INGREDIENTS:

Eggs

Milk

Veggies: Choose at least 3 bright colours 

eg. tomato, peppers, onion (yellow,purple or green), spinach, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, potato, squash

Protein: optional - cooked ham, sausage, chicken, tofu, cheese - cheddar, feta

Optional Baking soda, flour

Salt & Pepper

Other herbs (e.g. rosemary, thyme, oregano, basil)

Special Equipment:

Oct 29: Lazy Lasagna

Ingredients:

Lasagna sheets or uncooked cannelloni tubes

 Tomato marinara sauce (or meatsauce)

Freshly Grated cheese (cheddar, parmesan, or mozzarella)

Cheese layer:

2 cups ricotta cheese  or cottage cheese

1 egg

1 tsp Basil flakes

Vegetable layers:

Zucchini, mushrooms, eggplant or peppers
